"Seek the face of the Lord" - Psalm 27:8-9

When we think about encounters with God, they might seem sudden, accidental, or at least out of our control. We're just living life, and then suddenly, we're struck by a moment of awe or changed by a Spirit-initiated epiphany. While encounters with God can certainly occur when we least expect them, we will more likely experience God in new and exciting ways if we deliberately seek out such an encounter. Like David, we can set our hearts on seeing His face.

The biblical encounters with God are often associated with mountaintop experiences, and they follow a specific trajectory: Ascent, Encounter, and Descent. These three aspects of the encounter are represented in the three distinct sections of this devotional booklet.

The first section, Ascent, will prepare your heart for the encounter experience with fifteen daily devotionals from the Psalms of Ascents (Psalms 120-134). Each devotional has open-ended questions and space for journaling, allowing you to engage deeply with the content.

The Encounter section will then guide you into a personal retreat with God, providing "recipes" for the encounter. This section is customizable, ensuring that no two people will have the same experience. The focus is on helping you connect to God with depth and intimacy, challenging your mind, body, soul, and spirit.

Finally, the Descent section, consisting of fifteen devotionals, will transition you off the mountain and back into life, with the aim of bringing about lasting change. This section will help you integrate the insights and experiences from the Encounter into your daily life.

In total, Encounter features 45 scripture-based devotionals, designed to facilitate a profound and transformative connection with God. By deliberately seeking Him, you can expect to encounter the Almighty in new and exciting ways, just as David did when he declared, "Your face, Lord, do I seek."
